Why Plant Protein?

Why do we need Protein?

We all know that protein is one of the essential nutrients required by the human body. It plays a vital role in building and repairing tissues, making critical enzymes, hormones and other body chemicals. Human body stores fats and carbohydrates and uses it when required, but there is no such option available in the case of protein. So, the only way to get enough amount of protein is to include protein-rich food as a part of our diet.

Now that we know the importance of Protein, the question arises:

What is the best source of protein?

There are various ways to get our daily quota of this important macro nutrient. Broadly, there are two sources of protein – Plant and Animal. The latter being the popular source, thanks to the animal agriculture and dairy industries. Ironically, the unpopular source is the healthier one, better for us humans and for the planet, unlike its counterpart.

How can we be sure?

There are a plethora of studies that prove that a Plant-based diet is not just healthier than a Animal-based diet, but it is also what helps performance. The myth around animals as the source of protein has done more harm than good for us consumers. The fact that meat and dairy is considered to be the ‘high quality’ protein has left us believing into ads and taglines, subsequently taking up our pantry space.

Keeping controversial published studies aside, let’s logically try to understand the plant-based protein. Nuts, seeds and beans – some of the protein sources for those who follow a plant-based lifestyle is not just protein-rich. They have more nutrient value including large amounts of fiber.

But why is a animal-based diet bad for us?

Animal-based foods like meat, dairy, whey supplements and animal-based vaccinations are a common since centuries. But, they are not only high in cholesterol that are a major cause of clogged arteries, all animal-based foods are low in fibre and put an unimaginable stress on our kidneys. Unfortunately, what kept us in the dark about these facts are the heavily marketed meat, dairy and dietary supplements industries.
